And the chiefs of his people, who disbelieved and denied the Meeting in the Hereafter, and to whom We had given the luxuries and comforts of this life, said: "He is no more than a human being like you, he eats of that which you eat, and drinks of what you drink. 33 If you follow a mortal like yourselves you will certainly be lost. 34 Does he give you a promise that when you are dead and turned to dust and bones, you will be raised to life again? 35 ۞ Such a promise will never come true. 36 There is naught but our life in this world; we die and we live and we shall not be raised again. 37 He is nothing but a man who attributes his own lying inventions to God, and we are not going to believe him!" 38 The messenger said, "My Lord, help me, for they have rejected me." 39 (Allah) said: "In a little while, they are sure to be regretful." 40 So the punishment overtook them in justice, and We made them as rubbish; so away with the unjust people. 41 AND AFTER them We gave rise to new generations: 42 [for,] no community can ever forestall [the end of] its term - and neither can they delay [its coming]. 43 Then We sent our messengers one after another. Whenever its messenger came unto a nation they denied him; so We caused them to follow one another (to disaster) and We made them bywords. A far removal for folk who believe not! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and a manifest authority 45 to Pharaoh and his Council, but they were very proud, and they were a tyrannical nation. 46 They said: "Shall we believe in two men like ourselves? And their people are subject to us!" 47 So they accused them of falsehood, and they became of those who were destroyed. 48 And We gave the Book to Moses so that they may be guided. 49 We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign, and gave them a refuge on a hillside where there was a hollow and a spring. 50
