He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 So you are after him! 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And he feareth 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 olives, dates, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
