He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 when the blind came to him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and fearfully, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 and olives, and palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
