Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 And by ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars, 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And (with) Fir'aun (Pharaoh), who had pegs (who used to torture men by binding them to pegs)? 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 and you have a love of wealth which can never be satisfied. 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 O the contented soul! 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Enter among My servants 29 Enter then My garden." 30
