The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood). 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 Who hath taught mankind by the pen 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 Surely unto thy Lord is the Returning. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 Or had enjoined piety, (it would have been better)? 12 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 the lying, rebellious forehead! 16 So let him now call his gang! 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
