The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ ALIF LAM RA. These are the verses of the Book and the perspicuous oration. 1 Again and again will those who disbelieve, wish that they had bowed (to Allah's will) in Islam. 2 Leave them alone; let them eat and enjoy themselves the while the hope [of vain delights] beguiles them: for in time they will come to know [the truth]. 3 Never did We destroy a population that had not a term decreed and assigned beforehand. 4 Neither can a people anticipate its term, nor delay it. 5 They say, "You to whom the Reminder [the Quran] has been sent down, you are surely possessed. 6 “Why do you not bring angels to us, if you are truthful?” 7 We do not send the angels but with truth, and then they would not be respited. 8 We have sent down this Exposition, and We will guard it. 9 We sent messengers before you to the previous peoples, 10 And never does a Noble Messenger come to them, but they mock at him. 11 Even so we make a way for it in the hearts of the culprits. 12 So, they will not believe in it: The example of former people is there. 13 And [even] if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they continued therein to ascend, 14 they would have said, "Our eyes are bewildered and we have been affected by magic." 15
