Nay, by the moon, 32 And by the Night as it retreateth, 33 And by the Dawn as it shineth forth,- 34 Verily it is one of the greatest woes. 35 A warning to mortals, 36 To any of you that chooses to press forward, or to follow behind;- 37 Every soul is held in pledge against its own deeds, 38 save the People of the Right Hand 39 who will be in Paradise 40 From the guilty. 41 “What drove you to Hell?” 42 They will say: "We were not of those who used to offer their Salat (prayers) 43 “Nor used to feed the needy.” 44 We indulged and persisted in useless disputes, 45 and we gave the lie to the Day of Judgement 46 until certainty came upon us [in death]." 47 Then the intercession of the intercessors shall not profit them. 48 Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away 49 as though they were frightened wild asses, 50 Fleeing away from a lion. 51 Nay, but everyone of them desireth that he should be given open pages (from Allah). 52 By no means! Aye, they fear not the Hereafter. 53 Yes indeed, this is an advice. 54 and whoever wills may take it to heart. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
