The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
There was certainly a time when there was no mention of the human being. 1 Surely We have created man from a small life-germ uniting (itself): We mean to try him, so We have made him hearing, seeing. 2 Verily, We showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful. 3 [Now,] behold, for those who deny the truth, We have prepared chains, iron collars and a blazing fire, but 4 As to the Righteous, they shall drink of a Cup (of Wine) mixed with Kafur,- 5 a source [of bliss] whereof God's servants shall drink, seeing it flow in a flow abundant. 6 Those who fulfil their vows and fear the Day whose evil shall be diffused far and wide, 7 And they feed with food, for love of Him, the needy, and the orphan and the captive. 8 [Saying], "We feed you only for the countenance of Allah. We wish not from you reward or gratitude. 9 "Verily, We fear from our Lord a Day, hard and distressful, that will make the faces look horrible (from extreme dislikeness to it)." 10 Therefore, God will ward off from them the woes of that Day, and make them find brightness and joy, 11 And will reward them for what they patiently endured [with] a garden [in Paradise] and silk [garments]. 12 Reclining therein on raised couches, they shall find therein neither (the severe heat of) the sun nor intense cold. 13 And close upon them will be the shades thereof, and low will hang the clusters thereof greatly. 14 And they will be waited upon with vessels of silver and goblets that will [seem to] be crystal 15 goblets bright as crystal but made of silver, filled to exact measure. 16 And therein they shall be given to drink of a cup whereof the admixture will be ginger. 17 therein a fountain whose name is called Salsabil. 18 ۞ And there shall go round unto them youths ever-young. When thou seest them thou wouldst deem them pearls unstrung. 19 And when you look towards it, you will see serenity and a great kingdom. 20 Upon those [blest] will be garments of green silk and brocade; and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver. And their Sustainer will them to drink of a drink most pure. 21 Behold, this is a recompense for you, and your striving is thanked.' 22
