The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Of what do they question one another? 1 About the great news - 2 on which they [so utterly] disagree. 3 No! They are going to know. 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 And We have made your sleep as a rest. 9 The night a covering, 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 and We have set therein a glowing lamp. 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables, 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 the Day that the Horn is blown, and you shall come in crowds 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 Behold, they were not expecting to be called to account, 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 but We have placed on record every single thing [of what they did]. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
