He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 you attended to him, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
