Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 I swear by the Book that makes manifest (the truth). 2 that We sent down during a Blessed Night. We are ever warning. 3 On this night, every absolute command coming from Us becomes distinguishable. 4 As a command from before Us. Verily We were to become senders: 5 A mercy from your Lord; indeed He only is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure. 7 There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death. [He is] your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers. 8 Yet they are lost in doubt and play. 9 Wait, then, for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke. 10 Covering the people; this is a painful torment. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, 13 Yet they turned their backs on him and said: One taught (by others), a madman. 14 We shall indeed remove the Penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways). 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ We did, before them, try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them a messenger most honourable, 17 Saying: "Restore to me the slaves of Allah (i.e. the Children of Israel). Verily! I am to you a Messenger worthy of all trust, 18 And that do not exalt yourselves against Allah, surely I will bring to you a clear authority: 19 And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 20 If you do not believe in me, at least keep away from me." 21 Then he called upon his Lord: these are a people guilty. 22 And [God said]: "Go thou forth with My servants by night, for you will surely be pursued; 23 Cross the sea by cutting a path through it. Pharaoh's army will be drowned. 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 and cornfields and splendid buildings, 26 And favours amongst which they were rejoicing! 27 Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people. 28 And the heaven and the earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
