He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 to him thou attendest 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 lofty and pure, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 and olives and palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
