The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 arise and give warning! 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
