The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord who created - 1 Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the returning. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 So let him call on his concourse! 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
