The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
36 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Spider (Al-Ankaboot) before The Heifer (Al-Baqarah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Woe to those that deal in fraud,- 1 those who demand a full measure from others 2 but, when they measure for them or weigh for them, do skimp. 3 Do they not realise that they will be raised to life 4 On a mighty Day. 5 A Day whereon mankind shall stand before the Lord of the worlds? 6 Woe to them! Let them know that the records of the sinner's deeds are in Sijin. 7 and what shall teach thee what is Sijjin? 8 It is a Book inscribed. 9 Woe on that Day unto those who give the lie to the truth 10 who cry lies to the Day of Doom; 11 None denies it but the sinful transgressors. 12 When Our verses are recited to him, he says: 'Fictitious tales of the ancients' 13 Nay, but their hearts are corroded by all [the evil] that they were wont to do! 14 No indeed! On that Day they will be screened off from seeing their Lord, 15 Then most surely they shall enter the burning fire. 16 It will then be said, “This is what you used to deny.” 17 No indeed! Verily, the deeds of the virtuous shall be in the record of the exalted ones. 18 and what will make you understand what the 'Illiyyin is? -- 19 The record is a sealed text. 20 The ones nearest to God will bring it to public. 21 The virtuous will surely be in bliss, 22 resting on couches, looking around. 23 On their faces you will see the glow of beatitude. 24 They shall be given to drink of a wine that is sealed, 25 Whose seal is musk - for this let (all) those strive who strive for bliss - 26 a wine tempered with the waters of Tasnim, 27 a spring at which those drawn close to God will drink. 28 Behold, the wicked were wont to laugh at the believers: 29 And, when they passed them, to wink at each other, 30 And when they returned to their own followers they returned exulting. 31 and when they saw the believers, they said: “Lo! These are the erring ones”; 32 But they were not Sent to be guardians over them! 33 So, the believers will laugh at the infidels on that day, 34 as they sit on couches, gazing around. 35 Will not the infidels pay for what they had done? 36
True are the words of God the Almighty.
