The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 And your Lord glorify 3 And your garments purify! 4 And stay away from idols. 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then looked he, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
