When We said to the angels, "Prostrate yourselves to Adam", they prostrated themselves, but not Iblis: he refused. 116 So We said, "O Adam, indeed this is an enemy to you and to your wife. Then let him not remove you from Paradise so you would suffer. 117 Verily you will have no hunger or nakedness there, 118 you shall not thirst, nor feel the sun's heat." 119 But the devil whispered to him, saying: O Adam! Shall I show thee the tree of immortality and power that wasteth not away? 120 Adam and his wife ate (fruits) from the tree and found themselves naked. Then they started to cover themselves with the leaves from the garden. Adam disobeyed his Lord and went astray. 121 Thereafter his Lord chose him, and turned again unto him, and He guided him. 122 saying: "Down with you all from this [state of innocence, and be henceforth] enemies unto one another! None the less, there shall most certainly come unto you guidance from Me: and he who follows My guidance will not go astray, and neither will he be unhappy. 123 But as for him who shall turn away from remembering Me - his shall be a life of narrow scope and on the Day of Resurrection We shall raise him up blind." 124 He shall say, 'O my Lord, why hast thou raised me blind, and I was wont to see?' 125 God shall say, 'Even so it is. Our signs came unto thee, and thou didst forget them; and so today thou art forgotten.' 126 And thus do We recompense him who transgresses beyond bounds and believes not in the Signs of his Lord: and the Penalty of the Hereafter is far more grievous and more enduring. 127 Did they not learn from the many generations that We destroyed before them, whose habitations they now frequent? Verily there are signs in this for men of understanding. 128
