The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has there come on man a while of time when he was a thing unremembered? 1 Lo! We create man from a drop of thickened fluid to test him; so We make him hearing, knowing. 2 We showed him the right path whether he would be grateful or ungrateful. 3 We have prepared chains, shackles, and flaming fire (for the disbelievers). 4 Verily the pious shall drink of a cup whereof the admixture is like unto camphor. 5 A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah drink, making it gush forth abundantly, 6 They keep their vows and fear a day the woe of which will spread far and wide; 7 they give food, despite their love for it, to the poor and orphans and captives, 8 (Saying),"We feed you for the sake of Allah alone: no reward do we desire from you, nor thanks. 9 behold, we stand in awe of our Sustainer's judgment on a distressful, fateful Day!" 10 So God has guarded them from the evil of that day, and has procured them radiancy and gladness, 11 For their patience, He will reward them with Paradise and silk. 12 Reclining therein on raised thrones, they will see there neither the excessive heat of the sun, nor the excessive bitter cold, (as in Paradise there is no sun and no moon). 13 And its shade will cover them, and its fruit clusters brought down low for them. 14 And there shall be made to go round about them vessels of silver and goblets which are of glass, 15 crystal of silver that they have measured -- very exactly. 16 And they will be given to drink there of a Cup (of Wine) mixed with Zanjabil,- 17 (The water of) a spring therein, named Salsabil. 18 ۞ They will be attended by youths who will not age -- when you see them you will think them to be like sprinkled pearls -- 19 And when you look there [in Paradise], you will see pleasure and great dominion. 20 Upon them shall be green garments of silk and brocade; they are adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord shall give them to drink a pure draught. 21 Behold, this is your recompense and your endeavour has been appreciated. 22
