The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 by the book (Torah) written 2 on fine parchment; 3 And the House frequented, 4 The roof raised high, 5 And by the Ocean filled with Swell;- 6 Indeed your Lord’s punishment will surely take place. 7 There is none that can avert it; 8 On the Day when the heaven will shake with a dreadful shaking, 9 And the mountains will move away with a (horrible) movement. 10 Then woe that Day to those that treat (Truth) as Falsehood;- 11 who divert themselves with idle chatter: 12 On the Day when they shall be thrust into Hell with a violent thrust (and shall be told): 13 This is the fire which you used to deny. 14 What, is this magic, or is it you that do not see? 15 Roast therein; endure it or endure it not, thereof it is equal unto you. Ye are only being requited for that which ye have been working. 16 Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and pleasure, 17 Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire. 18 "Eat and drink with good cheer as a reward for your good deeds," 19 reclining on couches arranged in rows. And We shall wed them to fair maidens with large beautiful eyes. 20 And those who accepted faith, and whose descendants followed them with faith – We have joined their descendants with them, and have not reduced anything for them from their deeds; every soul is trapped in its own deeds. 21 And We shall bestow on them, of fruit and meat, anything they shall desire. 22 In it, they accept cups from each other, in which is neither any lewdness nor any sin. 23 ۞ And they will be waited upon by [immortal] youths, [as if they were children] of their own, [as pure] as if they were pearls hidden in their shells. 24 They will converse with one another, putting questions to each other, 25 They will say: verily we were aforetime, midst our household, ever in dread. 26 “So Allah did us a great favour, and saved us from the punishment of the flame.” 27 we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' 28
