We created man from sounding clay, from mud moulded into shape; 26 and the jinn created We before of fire flaming. 27 Your Lord said to the angels, "I am about to bring into being a man wrought from mud. 28 So, when I have made him and have breathed into him of My Spirit, do ye fall down, prostrating yourselves unto him. 29 The angels bowed in homage in a body 30 save Iblis: he refused to be among those who prostrated themselves. 31 He said: O Iblis! What aileth thee that thou art not among the prostrate? 32 He said, "Never would I prostrate to a human whom You created out of clay from an altered black mud." 33 He said: Then go thou forth from hence, for lo! thou art outcast. 34 "And verily, the curse shall be upon you till the Day of Recompense (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)." 35 Iblis prayed, "Lord, grant me respite until the Day of Judgment". 36 Said He, 'Thou art among the ones that are respited 37 "Till the Day of the Time appointed." 38 [Iblis (Satan)] said: "O my Lord! Because you misled me, I shall indeed adorn the path of error for them (mankind) on the earth, and I shall mislead them all. 39 Except Thy servants from among them, the devoted ones. 40 He said: This is a right course incumbent upon Me: 41 Lo! as for My slaves, thou hast no power over any of them save such of the froward as follow thee, 42 And indeed, Hell is the promised place for them all. 43 It has seven gates, and through each gate a portion of them belong. 44
