Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 And [by] ten nights 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 'O soul at peace, 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 enter, then, together with My [other true] servants 29 into My Paradise. 30
