The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 Who will be honoured 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 The Companions of the Right 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 And clustered plantains, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruits numberless, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 and raised couches 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
