He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 For him who does not care, 5 To him you give attention. 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and fears (Allah), 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
