The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Star when it plunges, 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
