The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
