By the sun and his morning brightness 1 By the Moon as she follows him; 2 And by oath of the day when it reveals it 3 and by the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 By the Firmament and its (wonderful) structure; 5 and by the earth and how He spread it, 6 And the soul and Him Who made it perfect, 7 then inspired it to understand what was right and wrong for it. 8 Indeed he succeeds who purifies his ownself (i.e. obeys and performs all that Allah ordered, by following the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism and by doing righteous good deeds). 9 And he is indeed a failure who stunteth it. 10 Thamood belied in their pride 11 when that most hapless wretch from among them rushed forward [to commit his evil deed,] 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 And He fears not its consequence. 15
