The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 and banana trees, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 And water poured out 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
