The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it sets: 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
