A numerous company from among the first, 39 And a numerous company from among the last. 40 The Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 41 They will live amid the scorching, 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 neither cold nor graceful in shape. 44 Surely they were before that made to live in ease and plenty. 45 And used to persist in the awful sin. 46 and they used to say, "What! After we have died and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up again? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients?' 48 Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, the former and the later peoples 49 will indeed be gathered together at an appointed time on a Day known [only to God]: 50 Then you erring ones, you that cried lies, 51 Ye verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum 52 "Then will ye fill your insides therewith, 53 Then drink over it of boiling water; 54 Lapping it up like female camels raging of thirst with disease." 55 This will be their welcome on the Day of Judgment. 56 We have created you, why do you not then assent? 57 Behold! that which ye emit. 58 Is it ye who create it, or are We the Creators? 59 We have destined death for you and no one can challenge Us 60 That We may substitute others like unto you and produce you into that which ye know not. 61 You have known the first creation, then why do you not reflect? 62 See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground? 63 Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We willed, surely We would make it chaff, so that ye would be left wondering. 65 (And say:) "We have fallen into debt; 66 Surely, we have been deprived (of the benefits)". 67 See ye the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down? 69 If We so pleased, We certainly could make it salty. Why, then, are you not grateful? 70 And have you seen the fire that you ignite? 71 Is it you who made the tree thereof to grow, or are We the Grower? 72 We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers, 73 Therefore glorify the name of your Lord, the Great. 74
