The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the sky has split [open] 1 hearing and obeying its Lord, as it must do; 2 And when the earth is spread out. 3 And has cast out that within it and relinquished [it] 4 and obeys its Lord as it must, 5 Human being, you strive hard to get closer to your Lord, and so you will certainly receive the recompense (of your deeds). 6 Then, as for him who will be given his Record in his right hand, 7 Will have an easy reckoning, 8 And he shall return unto his people joyfully. 9 But as for those whose Book of records will be given behind their backs, 10 shall cry for “perdition,” 11 And shall enter a blazing Fire, and made to taste its burning. 12 He lived rejoicing among his people, 13 he surely thought he would never revert. 14 Surely yes, why not? Indeed his Lord is seeing him. 15 So indeed I call to witness the evening twilight, 16 And by oath of the night and all that gathers in it. 17 And by the moon when she is at the full, 18 that you shall surely ride from stage to stage. 19 What aileth them, then, that they believe not 20 And when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate [to Allah]? ۩ 21 Nay! those who disbelieve give the lie to the truth. 22 And Allah is most knowing of what they keep within themselves. 23 So give them tidings of a painful punishment, 24 unless it be such [of them] as [repent, and] attain to faith, and do good works; for theirs shall be a reward unending! 25
