The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Cloaked one, 1 arise, and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 And your clothing purify 4 and defilement flee! 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And children present [with him] 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 and who still desires more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 For We have caused none but angelic powers to lord over the fire [of hell]; and We have not caused their number to be aught but a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth - to the end that they who have been granted revelation aforetime might be convinced [of the truth of this divine writ]; and that they who have attained to faith [in it] might grow yet more firm in their faith; and that [both] they who have been granted the earlier revelation and they who believe [in this one] might be freed of all doubt; and that they in whose hearts is disease and they who deny the truth outright might ask, "What does [your] God mean by this parable?" In this way God lets go astray him that wills [to go astray,] and guides aright him that wills [to be guided]. And none can comprehend thy Sustainers forces save Him alone: and all this is but a reminder to mortal man. 31
