'Ad (people) belied the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 124 I am a trustworthy messenger for you: 125 Fear Allah and obey me. 126 For this I ask of you no wage, for my wage falls only on the Lord of the Worlds. 127 “What! You build a structure on every height, to laugh at the passers-by?” 128 And take ye for yourselves castles that haply ye may abide. 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants! 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 And be careful of (your duty to) Him Who has given you abundance of what you know. 132 He has bestowed on you cattle, and sons, 133 And gardens and springs. 134 'Indeed, I fear for you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 135 [But] they answered. "It is all one to us whether thou preachest [something new] or art not of those who [like to] preach. 136 “This is nothing but the tradition of former people.” 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 So they cried him lies; then We destroyed them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 140
