The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Makkah); 1 And you are free to live upon it, -- 2 And by the begetter and that which he begat, 3 Verily We have created man into toil and struggle. 4 Does man think that no one will ever have power over him? 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 Does man think that no one saw him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 And what will explain to thee the path that is steep?- 12 (It is) the freeing of a slave, 13 Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), 14 of an orphaned relative 15 or of a needy [stranger] lying in the dust 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
Almighty God's Truth.
