Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
KAF HA YA 'AIN SAD. 1 This is an account of the mercy of your Lord to His servant Zechariah 2 Recall what time he cried unto his Lord with a cry secret. 3 He said: My Lord! surely my bones are weakened and my head flares with hoariness, and, my Lord! I have never been unsuccessful in my prayer to Thee: 4 Indeed, I fear my kinsmen who will succeed me, for my wife is barren. Grant me a kinsman 5 Who shall inherit of me and inherit (also) of the house of Jacob. And make him, my Lord, acceptable (unto Thee). 6 “O Zakaria! We give you the glad tidings of a son whose name is Yahya (John) – before him, We have not created anyone of this name.” 7 "How can I have a son, O Lord" he said, "when my wife is barren and I am old and decrepit?" 8 (The angel) said, "This is true, but your Lord says, 'For Me it is easy; I created you when you did not exist". 9 Zachariah asked, " Lord, show me evidence (if this is a heavenly news)." The Lord said, "The evidence for it is that you must not speak (to any mortal) though you are in good health for three nights (and days)." 10 Then he came forth unto his people from the sanctuary, and signified to them: Glorify your Lord at break of day and fall of night. 11 (It was said to his son): "O Yahya (John)! Hold fast the Scripture [the Taurat (Torah)]." And We gave him wisdom while yet a child. 12 And piety (for all creatures) as from Us, and purity: He was devout, 13 kind to his parents, not arrogant or a rebellious person. 14 So peace on him the day he was born, the day he will die, and the day that he will be raised from the dead. 15
