In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou folded in garments! 1 stand up to pray for much of the night. 2 half the night, or a little less 3 or a little more; and with recitation, recite the Koran. 4 Verily We! anon We shall cast upon thee a weighty word. 5 [and,] verily, the hours of night impress the mind most strongly and speak with the clearest voice, 6 Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation. 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 The Sustainer of the east and the west [is He]: there is no deity save Him: hence, ascribe to Him alone the power to determine thy fate, 9 And bear patiently what they say and avoid them with a becoming avoidance. 10 And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little. 11 Verily, with Us are fetters (to bind them), and a raging Fire. 12 and a food that chokes, and a grievous chastisement. 13 On the Day when the earth with all its mountains quake and the mountains become heaps of shifting sand. 14 Surely We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We had sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But Pharoah rebelled against the messenger, so We seized him with a strong, crushing grip. 16 How, then, if you refuse to acknowledge the truth, will you protect yourselves on that Day which shall turn the hair of children grey, 17 On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. 18 This is a reminder. Let anyone who wants, seek guidance from his Lord. 19
