۞ Gather together those who were unjust and their associates, and what they used to worship 22 Beside Allah, and lead them on to the path of the Flaming Fire. 23 and detain them there; they will be called to account. 24 What aileth you that ye succour not one another? 25 In fact, on that day they will be submissive. 26 They will turn upon one another, and question one another. 27 They say: Lo! ye used to come unto us, imposing, (swearing that ye spoke the truth). 28 But they reply: 'Rather, you were not believers. 29 And we had over you no authority, but ye were a people exorbitant. 30 "So now has been proved true, against us, the word of our Lord that we shall indeed (have to) taste (the punishment of our sins). 31 And we led you to deviation; indeed, we were deviators." 32 So verily on that Day they all in the torment will be sharers. 33 As such We shall deal with the evildoers. 34 Truly, when it was said to them: La ilaha ill-Allah "(none has the right to be worshipped but Allah)," they puffed themselves up with pride (i.e. denied it). 35 And to say: What! shall we indeed give up our gods for the sake of a mad poet? 36 "Surely, he has brought the truth, confirming those who were sent before; 37 (They will be told): “You shall taste the grievous chastisement. 38 And you will be requited nothing except for what you used to do (evil deeds, sins, and Allah's disobedience which you used to do in this world); 39 But the chosen servants of God; 40 For them is the sustenance known to Us. 41 and fruits while they are honored. 42 In gardens of pleasure, 43 They will be seated upon couches set face to face; 44 Cups of wine will be presented to them in rounds, from a spring flowing in front of them. 45 White, a pleasure unto the drinkers. 46 wherein no sickness is, neither intoxication; 47 And with them maidens of modest look and large lustrous eyes, 48 like closely guarded pearls. 49 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 50 A speaker from among them shall say: Surely I had a comrade of mine, 51 "Who used to say, 'what! art thou amongst those who bear witness to the Truth (of the Message)? 52 What! when we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then be certainly brought to judgment? 53 He said (to others on the thrones), “Will you take a glimpse (into hell) below?” 54 and then he looks and sees that [companion of his] in the midst of the blazing fire, 55 He said, “By Allah, you had nearly ruined me!” 56 If it had not been for the blessing of my Lord, I would also have been taken to Hell." 57 What, do we then not die 58 except for our first death, and are we not chastised? 59 Truly, this is a great victory!" 60 For the like of this let the workers [on earth] work. 61 Is this better as an entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 We have indeed made that a punishment for the unjust. 63 It is a tree that comes forth in the root of Hell; 64 Its spathes are like the prickly pear. 65 So indeed they will eat from it, and fill their bellies with it. 66 Then on the top of that they will be given boiling water to drink so that it becomes a mixture (of boiling water and Zaqqum in their bellies). 67 then their return is to Hell. 68 They found their fathers had gone astray; 69 So they (too) were rushed down on their footsteps! 70 Before them erred most of the ancients, 71 And We had already sent among them warners. 72 Then see how was the end of those warned, 73 Except the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah. 74
