The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise and warn! 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And your garments do purify, 4 and flee from the statues! 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 He looked (at others); 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
