Said the Chiefs of the people of Pharaoh: "This is indeed a sorcerer well-versed. 109 "His plan is to get you out of your land: then what is it ye counsel?" 110 They said (unto Pharaoh): Put him off (a while) - him and his brother - and send into the cities summoners, 111 to summon every wellversed sorcerer to you' 112 And the magicians came unto Fir'awn. They said: surely there is for us a reward if we are the overcomers. 113 He said, “Yes, and you will then become close to me.” 114 They said, "Moses, will you first throw, or shall we?" 115 "You cast it first," answered Moses. When they cast their spell, they bewitched the eyes of the people and petrified them by conjuring up a great charm. 116 And We inspired to Moses, "Throw your staff," and at once it devoured what they were falsifying. 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed and what they had produced came to nothing: 118 Pharaoh and his men were defeated and utterly humiliated. 119 And the sorcerers prostrated themselves 120 [and] exclaiming: "We have come to believe in the Sustainer of all the worlds, 121 "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Pharaoh said, "You dare believe in Him before I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have devised in this city in order to drive its people out. But you shall soon know the consequences, 123 Surely I will cut off your hands and feet on the opposite sides and thereafter I will crucify you all. 124 They replied: 'We shall surely return to our Lord. 125 “And what did you dislike in us, except that we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us? Our Lord! Pour (bestow abundantly) patience on us, and bestow us death as Muslims.” 126
