The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ What do they quarrel about? 1 About the great tidings! 2 That over which they are in disagreement. 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 The night a covering, 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 and sent down heavy rains from the clouds 14 So that We bring forth thereby corn and vegetation. 15 and thick gardens grow? 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The day when the Trumpet will be blown – you will therefore come forth in multitudes. 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 Everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
