Thamud denied the messengers 141 when their brother Salih said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 142 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 143 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 144 For this I ask of you no wage; my wage falls only upon the Lord of the Worlds. 145 (Do you think) you will be left secure here 146 Within gardens and springs 147 "And corn-fields and date-palms with spathes near breaking (with the weight of fruit)? 148 hewing out houses in the mountains and taking pride in your skill? 149 So be mindful of God and listen to me. 150 And do not obey the bidding of the extravagant, 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and mend not (their ways)." 152 They said: Thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 You are but a human like ourselves. Produce for us a sign, if you are of the truthful' 154 He said, “This is the she-camel – one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn.” 155 and do her no harm, lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 156 But they cruelly slaughtered her - and then they had cause to regret it: 157 So the chastisement seized them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 158 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 159
