۞ And certainly We gave to Ibrahim his rectitude before, and We knew him fully well. 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these images, to which you are devoted?" 52 They answered: "We found our forefathers worshipping them." 53 He said, "Indeed ye have been in manifest error - ye and your fathers." 54 They said: Bringest thou unto us the truth, or art thou some jester? 55 'No' he answered, 'your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Originator of them, and I am among those bearing witness to it. 56 By Allah, I will certainly outwit your idols as soon as you have turned your backs and gone' 57 He shattered them all, except the biggest among them, that perhaps they may question it. 58 They said: Who has done this to our gods? Most surely he is one of the unjust. 59 Some said, "We heard a young man, called Abraham, talking about them." 60 "Bring him before the people," they said, "that they may bear witness." 61 They said, "Have you done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He answered, "Rather this biggest one of them did it. Ask them, if they can speak." 63 Thereupon they turned to their (inner) selves and said (to themselves): "Surely it is you who are the wrong-doers." 64 And they were utterly confounded, and they said: Well thou knowest that these speak not. 65 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Do you then worship besides Allah, things that can neither profit you, nor harm you? 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship beside Allah. Do you have no sense?" 67 They said, "Burn him and help your deities, if you are resolved to do something." 68 [But] We said: O fire! Be thou cool, and [a source of] inner peace for Abraham!" 69 And they intended to do him an evil, but We made them the worst losers. 70 and We delivered him, and Lot, unto the land that We had blessed for all beings. 71 We bestowed Isaac and then Jacob on him as an additional boon and We made all of them righteous. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (men) by Our Command, and We sent them inspiration to do good deeds, to establish regular prayers, and to practise regular charity; and they constantly served Us (and Us only). 73 To Lot We gave knowledge and wisdom and saved him from the people of the town who were committing indecent acts. They were certainly a bad and sinful people. 74 We admitted him to Our mercy; he was a righteous man. 75
