The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By those that pluck out vehemently 1 And those who undo the bonds gently, 2 by the angels who float (in the heavens by the will of God), 3 Then those who are foremost going ahead, 4 and thus they fulfil the [Creator's] behest! 5 On the day when the first trumpet sound blasts 6 What must happen afterwards shall follow it. 7 hearts will be throbbing, 8 and eyes will be humbly cast down. 9 They say: "Shall we go back to our original state 10 Even if we should be decayed bones? 11 They say, "That, then, would be a losing return." 12 Surely it will need but one shout, 13 When lo! they shall be wakeful. 14 Hath there come unto thee the history of Moses? 15 When his Lord called to him in the holy valley, Towa: 16 "Go thou to Pharaoh for he has indeed transgressed all bounds: 17 "And say to him, 'Wouldst thou that thou shouldst be purified (from sin)?- 18 that I may direct you to your Lord and then you hold Him in awe?'” 19 So he showed him the great sign, 20 But he rejected (the truth) and disobeyed. 21 Then he went back hastily. 22 then, he gathered, proclaimed, 23 and said, "I am your Lord All-Highest!" 24 So Allah, seized him with punishment for his last [i.e. his saying: "I am your lord, most high") (see Verse 79:24)] and first [(i.e. his saying, "O chiefs! I know not that you have a god other than I" (see Verse 28:38)] transgression. 25 In this, behold, there is a lesson indeed for all who stand in awe [of God]. 26
