Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 labouring, weary, 3 Entering into burning fire, 4 Drinking from a boiling spring, 5 no food for them except thorny plants 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 in a sublime garden, 10 Wherein you shall not hear vain talk. 11 Wherein is a gushing spring, 12 Therein are thrones raised high, 13 And cups put in place 14 And cushions lined up 15 And linen spread out. 16 Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, 17 And at the sky, how it is raised aloft? 18 And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?- 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 You are not charged to oversee them. 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
