He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 you attended to him, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And he fears, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
