He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 For him who does not care, 5 To him you attend; 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and fearfully, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 exalted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
