Stories (Al-Qasas)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Ta-Seen-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah and to whomever he reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 These are Verses of the Book that makes (things) clear. 2 We recount to you with truth some parts of the story of Moses and Pharaoh for the benefit of those who believe. 3 Verily, Fir'aun (Pharaoh) exalted himself in the land and made its people sects, weakening (oppressing) a group (i.e. Children of Israel) among them, killing their sons, and letting their females live. Verily, he was of the Mufsidun (i.e. those who commit great sins and crimes, oppressors, tyrants, etc.). 4 Yet We desired to be gracious to those that were abased in the land, and to make them leaders, and to make them the inheritors, 5 And We should establish them in the earth, and We should let Fir'awn and Haman and their hosts see from them that which they dreaded. 6 We suggested to the mother of Moses: "Suckle your child, but when you fear for his life cast him into the river and be not fearful nor grieve, for We shall restore him to you and make him one of the Messengers." 7 Then the family of Pharaoh picked him out to be an enemy and a sorrow for them, indeed Pharaoh and Haman, and their army were sinners. 8 And Firon's wife said: A refreshment of the eye to me and to you; do not slay him; maybe he will be useful to us, or we may take him for a son; and they did not perceive. 9 And the heart of the mother of Moses became void, and she would have betrayed him if We had not fortified her heart, that she might be of the believers. 10 And she said unto his sister: follow him. So she watched him from afar; and they perceived not. 11 ۞ Now from the very beginning We caused him to refuse the breast of [Egyptian] nurses; and [when his sister came to know this,] she said: "Shall I guide you to a family that might rear him for you, and look after him with good will?" 12 So, We restored him to his mother, so that she might be comforted and not sorrow, and that she might know that the promise of Allah is true.
