The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
When the sun shall be folded up, 1 When the stars fall, losing their lustre; 2 And when the mountains are driven. 3 When the she-camels, ten months with young, are left untended; 4 and when all beasts are gathered together, 5 And when the seas are set on fire, 6 And when souls are reunited, 7 when the buried infant shall be asked 8 For what sin she was slain, 9 And when the Writs shall be lain open, 10 The curtain drawn back from the skies, 11 when Hell shall be set blazing, 12 and Paradise is brought near, 13 Then every soul shall know that which it hath presented. 14 So, I call the receding stars to witness, 15 the planets that run their course and set, 16 And the close of night, 17 And by the dawn as it brightens; 18 [That] indeed, the Qur'an is a word [conveyed by] a noble messenger 19 Mighty, established in the presence of the Lord of the Throne, 20 Obeyed one; then trustworthy. 21 And (O people!) your companion is not one possessed; 22 And indeed he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] in the clear horizon (towards the east). 23 He (Muhammad) is not accused of lying about the unseen. 24 And the Qur’an is not the recitation of Satan the outcast. 25 Whither, then, will you go? 26 This is naught else than a reminder unto creation, 27 for everyone of you who wishes to follow the Straight Way; 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Lord of the Universe, so wills it [to show you that way]. 29
