The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER Mount Sinai! 1 By a Decree inscribed 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 And the House frequented, 4 By the roof elevated. 5 and the sea swarming, 6 VERILY, [O man,] the suffering decreed by thy Sustainer [for the sinners] will indeed come to pass: 7 No one can avert it. 8 On the day when the heaven shall move from side to side 9 and the mountains will move with [an awesome] movement. 10 Woe on that Day to those who deny the truth, 11 Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves. 12 That Day shall they be thrust down to the Fire of Hell, irresistibly. 13 'This is the fire that you cried lies to! 14 “So is this magic, or are you unable to see?” 15 "Burn ye therein: the same is it to you whether ye bear it with patience, or not: Ye but receive the recompense of your (own) deeds." 16 But in the Gardens the righteous shall live in bliss, 17 Delighted at the bestowal of their Lord; and their Lord has saved them from the fire. 18 “Eat and drink with pleasure, a reward for what you used to do.” 19 reclining on couches [of happiness] ranged in rows!" And [in that paradise] We shall mate them with companions pure, most beautiful of eye. 20 And they who believe and whose seed follow them in faith, We cause their seed to join them (there), and We deprive them of nought of their (life's) work. Every man is a pledge for that which he hath earned. 21 And We shall increasingly give them fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 There they shall pass from hand to hand a (wine) cup, free from any Laghw (dirty, false, evil vague talk between them), and free from sin (because it will be legal for them to drink). 23 ۞ And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls. 24 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 25 "Before this, when we were among our families, we were full of fear of God's displeasure -- 26 “So Allah did us a great favour, and saved us from the punishment of the flame.” 27 before this, we used to pray to Him. Surely, He is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
