The Town (Al-Balad)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Nay, I swear by this city - 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 We have indeed created man surrounded by hardships. 4 Does he think that never will anyone overcome him? 5 He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance." 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not grant him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 (It is) Freeing a neck (slave, etc.) 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 To an orphan near of kin. 15 or to a destitute lying in dust; 16 Then he became one of those who believed, and recommended one another to perseverance and patience, and (also) recommended one another to pity and compassion. 17 They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed). 18 But those who disbelieved in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), they are those on the Left Hand (the dwellers of Hell). 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
