The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth is shaken 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 And spreading shade, 30 And water gushing, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And raised couches. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 for the people of the right hand 38
