Nay, and by the moon, 32 And by oath of the night when it turns back. 33 By the dawn when it lightens! 34 Verily it is one of the greatest woes. 35 a warning to mortal man 36 To whoever wills among you to proceed or stay behind. 37 Every soul is mortgaged for its own deeds. 38 Except the Companions of the Right Hand. 39 (They will be) in Gardens (of Delight): they will question each other, 40 about the sinners. 41 "What has brought you into the Fire of Hell ?" 42 They shall say: We were not of those who prayed; 43 and we did not feed the poor; 44 and we were wont to indulge in sinning together with all [the others] who indulged in it; 45 and rejected the Day of Judgment 46 Until the certainty (of death) had come upon us. 47 Then there will not profit them intercesion of the interceders. 48 What is the matter with them that they turn away from this Reminder, 49 As if they were affrighted asses, 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Nay, but everyone of them desireth that he should be given open pages (from Allah). 52 Nay, verily. They fear not the Hereafter. 53 No indeed; surely it is a Reminder; 54 So whosoever will may heed. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
